Do Dogs Watch TV?

Yes, some dogs do watch tv.  Today, Sunday, we were watching tv, The Little Rascals, and I could not believe that Walter was also watching tv with us.  He’d follow their movements and would bark when he saw something that, in my opinion, excited him.  Alex usually just sleeps and does not care for what’s going on on tv.

Can you see how attentive he is specially now that he can see a dog?

What was Alex doing?  Relaxing or I should say, just waking up from a nap.

Roxy decided that watching tv or napping was not for her, so she decided to look out the window and keep me informed about the comings and goings of our neighbors.  I told her not to worry because most of our neighbors happen to be military, ex-military or federal employees.  I don’t think I convinced her so she stayed by the window for a little while.

A little while later she seemed to be asking, “do I need to continue to stand guard?”  I told her to relax and let the neighbors be.

Watching tv and guarding our home certainly seemed to have taken a toll on both Walter and Roxy so they decided to take a break and take a nap.  What a hard life my canine companions have, don’t you think?  Does your dog watch tv like Walter?  Have a great week.

  1. Jasmine watches TV….she is the only dog I have owned that does. First time I noticed her doing this, I thought it was so funny. I have noticed a few of the dogs that stay with us watch TV as well.

🙂 Yes, a few dogs do actually watch tv. Most of them, though, do not seem to care for it.

We have a dog that watches a lot of tv. He’s familiar with ads that have dogs in them and will bark at the tv as soon as he hears the music. And just forget about watching the Westminster Dog Show. He loses his mind!

Lol. Wow, I am amazed at how many pet parents have responded with dogs that actually do watch tv. And I thought this was more the exception than the norm. Well, you guys certainly proved me wrong:)

  4. I like to watch soccer in tv … wow I wish I could get this ball ;o)

Not only do animals watch TV, they have their favorite shows too. Several months ago I blogged about my cat, Derick, and how he loves a certain documentary movie about the 1960s band, The Turtles. When we put that movie on, he’ll sit and watch it in it’s entirety. From the first song he comes running, then he’ll plop himself down in front of the TV set and just stare at the screen until the closing credits!

My mom’s Chihuahua did that do, but only for a certain soap opera. And she had to be on the couch for that show. Other shows, she’s just sit on the floor and watch. This went on for years until the dog passed away!

Lol. Omg, so there are dogs and cats that actually watch tv. That is amazing because I have my own dog, Alex, and dogs that stay with us for days or months, but the only one I’ve realize have seen watch tv is Walter. Great, Walter has more tv watching pals:)

Animals are the best, aren’t they? So smart! They must be connecting with something they see. Derick also runs to the television when a cat meows.

      2. Marcela says:

        Yes, they are the best:)

  6. I had a dog that barked if he heard a door bell on TV. Another that always looked at the TV during the Empire Carpet commercial hehe.. The dogs I have now don’t really watch TV, but sometimes their ears perk up if I am playing something on youtube (like a puppy) 🙂

Some of the dogs that stay with me, do bark when they hear the door bell on tv too. The sound is just a little too realistic, don’t you think so?
