My Chaotic Home: A Laid Back Tuesday

chaotic1

I had a pet parent a while ago say, “Your house must be very noisy and chaotic when you have dogs staying with you.”  Well, yes and no.

Yes, my home is chaotic when: a pet parent is dropping off or picking up her furry kid because the other dogs can smell and hear this person; someone rings the bell and all the dogs want to know who this person happens to be; and when we are getting ready to take a walk because they are all excited to go out.

Other than that, my home is pretty quiet and not chaotic at all.  I like to have the TV or radio on because, and I learned this from experience, it muffle the noises going on outside and all the dogs are able to nap in peace.  The ones that come to stay with us often have a favorite place and many times forgo their bed.  One perfect example is Walter.  He is either under the dining room table or in the kitchen rather than his bed.

There are two things or goals, I should say, that I aim for when living and boarding dogs: provide a stress-free environment for the dogs that stay with us, and enjoy each other’s company.  A couple of years ago, I had a friend of mine tell me that she was very stressed out since she got a dog and that once her dog passed away she was not planning to get another one.  I believe that living with a dog(s) should be an enjoyable and enriching experience, but we, pet parents, need to do our part in order to accomplish that.  Do you enjoy having a dog or does it stress you out?

Roxy, My Little Shadow

Roxy, a beautiful Pomeranian, is staying with us this weekend.  To say that she is my little shadow would be an understatement.  Remember Frasier, the TV show?  Frasier was living with his father, Martin, and his father’s dog, Eddie.  For some odd, crazy reason Eddie was fascinated with Frasier and would stare at him for long periods of time.  Well, Roxy also does that.  Sometimes she just sits close to me and stares at me.  I wonder, just like Frasier did, do I look like a giant kibble?

Roxy, "where are you going?"

Roxy, “where are you going?”

Can you see the leash?  The last time she was here, I had to go and run some errands so she stayed with Cynthia and Alex at home and we had to put a leash on her so she would not bolt out the door after me.  Cynthia took this picture.

According to Cynthia, Roxy stayed waiting for me for a while on this spot.  When I got back home she greeted me with her usual barking, running around me, and jumping.  I had to laugh because she is so tiny and adorable.  What a wonderful welcome I received from Roxy.

Do Dogs Watch TV?

Yes, some dogs do watch tv.  Today, Sunday, we were watching tv, The Little Rascals, and I could not believe that Walter was also watching tv with us.  He’d follow their movements and would bark when he saw something that, in my opinion, excited him.  Alex usually just sleeps and does not care for what’s going on on tv.

Can you see how attentive he is specially now that he can see a dog?

What was Alex doing?  Relaxing or I should say, just waking up from a nap.

Roxy decided that watching tv or napping was not for her, so she decided to look out the window and keep me informed about the comings and goings of our neighbors.  I told her not to worry because most of our neighbors happen to be military, ex-military or federal employees.  I don’t think I convinced her so she stayed by the window for a little while.

A little while later she seemed to be asking, “do I need to continue to stand guard?”  I told her to relax and let the neighbors be.

Watching tv and guarding our home certainly seemed to have taken a toll on both Walter and Roxy so they decided to take a break and take a nap.  What a hard life my canine companions have, don’t you think?  Does your dog watch tv like Walter?  Have a great week.
