Freaking Winter Wonderland – 2/21/15

ww1I don’t know how to start this post, so here it goes.  I am going to make a list of the things I like and dislike about Winter so this way maybe someone out there will say, “Me too.”  Misery does love company.

Things I like about Winter:

  1. Shoveling snow, but only if I do it within 5 hours after it has stopped snowing.  I actually enjoy it.
  2. Clothing – I like to wear a coat, scarf, gloves, etc.

Things I dislike about Winter:

  1. I cannot go for a walk with Alex for too long specially when the roads/sidewalks are icy
  2. I have to wear layer after layer of clothing to keep myself warm.  Alex doesn’t like to wear sweaters except for one, so I think is safe to say that Alex shares this dislike with me
  3. My hands hurt the colder the weather gets and I hate it
  4. I cannot take a shower and then go out.  Why?  Every time I do that I get a cold.  No, really. I really do get a cold
  5. In cold weather, there are more accidents due to icy roads

ww2Do you know what is the best part about having a canine companion?  In my case, Alex makes me see things in a different way.  Look at her.  Asleep, close to the vent of course, with no care in the world.  Alex makes the best out of any situation and time of the year.  What a great teacher she is, don’t you think?  Well, I will stop my complaining and follow Alex’s lead and enjoy the day even though as I look out my window I see nothing but more snow.  I know, I know.  I was still able to complain one more time.  What can I say?  I am human after all.

Go Away Winter

goawaywinter1For the first 15 years of my life, I lived in a tropical climate.  My past time was riding my bike, going to the beach almost every day, and/or playing with my neighbors.  I never liked nor thought that I could live in a place where winters were as bad as what we are experiencing this year, but here I am living in Maryland with my girlfriend and our canine daughter, Alex.

goawaywinter2Does it sound like I am complaining about the weather?  Yes, I am.  Today, I finally was able to take Alex and Bella for a nice walk.  I took them to walk separately because Bella is still learning how to walk on leash, but I was really surprised at how well she did today.  It does not mean she is done, but she has improved a lot.  In the near future, when the weather gets better, I am going to start taking her to walk in different areas so she can be exposed to people, dogs, cars, etc.  For now, we are just walking around the neighborhood and that keep us busy enough.

goawaywinter3Although I really like Maryland and our neighborhood, this year I am seriously thinking about moving to the Southwest.  Yes, I am that fed up with this weather.  And you know what?  I just heard that we have more snow coming our way.  Boy, the fun never ends.  Look at Alex.  She is just enjoying being out.  By the way, that picture was taken last year.  Maybe I should do the same, and enjoy what I have, and yes, that includes this awful weather.  Have a great week:-)

Snowing in Odenton, Maryland

snowdex1This is how my neighborhood looked a couple of days ago.

snowdex2This is how it looked this morning when I took Dexter for a walk.  It was still snowing.  When we got back home I dried him, turn the heater on, and got him to go to his bed.  We walked for about 1/2 hour and he seemed to enjoy the snow.

snowdex31And this is how Dexter looked after our walk followed by breakfast.  Yes, he was tired.  What a hard life this good-looking doggie has, don’t you think?

snowdex4Alex stayed with Cynthia at home since she is to be on bed rest for a while.  I miss walking with her, but I don’t want to push it for I want her to get better.  For those of you that had to go out in this crazy weather, please be careful, and for those of us that stayed home, eat, sleep, read, watch tv, etc., in other words, vegetate.  I hope the weather improves soon.  Take care.

It’s Raining In Maryland

Well, I am not going to complain about the weather because we did have a wonderful weekend, but I do want to show you what Alex and Roxy have been up to this rainy day.

Alex does not seem to be concerned at all about the weather.  She and Roxy had a short walk, followed by breakfast, and a nap.

No, Roxy does not seem to care about the weather either.  I am going to follow their lead and make the best out of this rainy day.  Have a great week.

Snowing On A Monday Morning

Walter

Walter

Could you believe that I took this picture last Saturday while walking with Walter?

snow2

Today, Monday, certainly looks completely different from last Saturday.  Does Walter look concern about it?  Not really.

snow3This is my backyard.  The same backyard where Cynthia, a couple of days ago, BBQ.  Isn’t it supposed to be Spring now?  No, I am not complaining, but rather wondering about this crazy weather.

snow4Years ago, I used to dread anytime the weatherman said we had snow coming.  On my defense, I’d like to point out that for the first 15 years of my life I lived mostly in a tropical climate, close to the beach, and snow was nothing more to me than some pretty pictures on a book.  Now, I actually appreciate every season of the year.  Why?  My girlfriend, Cynthia, and dogs have taught me to be appreciative of what each season brings to us.

snow5Look at Alex.  No care in the world.  Just watching us specially when she hears that we open one of her bags full of treats.

snow6Walter, another perfect specimen, of what relaxation should look like.  I think the Greek philosopher, Diogenes, had the right idea.  He believed that happiness was achieved by returning to nature, and what better way to keep in touch with nature than living with dogs.
