Abby, my 10 year old Beagle mix, every year during spring and fall seasons gets her ears really red with a funky smell to accompany this, and her paws also get a funny color. Zoe, my 4 year old mixed breed, this year started scratching more than usual so I think she is also affected by allergies but to a lesser degree than Abby.
Both of them get a shot around May to manage their allergies and I was surprised when the vet told me that some dogs have to get a shot more than once a year. One thing I do all year long is to wipe their paws and brush them, but during spring and fall I do it more methodically: wipe paws, undercarriage and face; brush entire body; and, this is important, change and wash their bedding and clothes more often.
As long as I am diligent with their grooming they seem fine, but I love to learn from other pet parents so these are my questions for you: what do you do, grooming wise, that seems to work for your dog? Any special diet or supplements that you add to their food? And, how often do you bathe your dogs? Enjoy your doggies and this beautiful weather!
