The above picture was taken years ago in June, and it was surprisingly not too hot for June in Maryland. Yes, unbelievable but true. Anyway, since we moved from Massachusetts I can no longer walk whenever I feel like it. Why? It’s too hot and humid, by the way I am not complaining, so I make sure that our walks are done in the morning.
These are some things you should be aware when walking with a dog during Summer:
- Walk early in the morning on days when the temperature and humidity will be high
- Carry water for you and your dog
- You will probably walk less during Summer than any other time of the year, but that’s ok
- At the end of the walk, get in the habit of wiping off their paws and checking them to make sure that they are ok.
- Give your dog a quick brush to get rid of dirt, fleas or any thing else that he might have picked up during the walk
Summer is a fun time to enjoy with your dog, just make sure that you take certain precautions so both of you have a wonderful time.
Well, that’s all for now. Do you think they are smiling on the above picture? I always thought so.

Good advice for summer walks. Thanks for sharing. It’s been dry and hot here for several days so we’ve been getting out before 6 a.m. when it’s cool and quiet.
Excellent! The last couple of days here in Maryland have been really hot and humid so we are out for our walk by no later than 7:30am, but I am not complaining.
Yes, they look so happy!
I think so too!
