Yesterday, I took Alex to get updated on her vaccines and for her yearly check-up and this is the first time in 10 years when she actually was relaxed and not bouncing off the walls like she has done since she was a puppy. Why the behavioral change? Don’t know and quite frankly don’t care either. I was just glad that my face was not as red as the shirt I was wearing because of embarrassment which is customary when I take her to the vet. Believe it or not, I was hoping that the vet would think I was having one of those infamous hot flashes I hear so much about rather than realizing that I was dying of embarrassment because of Alex’s hyper nature.
Anyway, my girl was given a clean bill of health and I’d have to take her back in 3 weeks for a booster shot for Lyme disease. As soon as we got home, she was very thirsty and tired. I gave her some water and she went straight to bed. She woke up later and ended up on the couch right next to me. I sat down to watch TV and I kept touching her. She probably thought, “Mom, please let me sleep.” I think it was more for myself than her for I wanted to reassure myself that she was still with me, safe and sound. Alex is a very healthy girl, but I also know that she is 10 years old so now more than ever I really appreciate the time I have with her.
If you forgot to schedule an appointment to see the vet, please do not delay and get your dog updated on all her vaccines and make sure she gets her yearly check-up. Enjoy your canine companion.
Love seeing them all curled up like that!
