Alex’s ACL Injury – Update 1

update1Three weeks ago, we received the brace featured in the above picture for Alex and Cynthia took this picture minutes after we put it on her.

We got this brace for Alex because we wanted to use the least invasive method to treat her injury and so far this is what we do and have noticed:

  • During the first week she was only able to walk 3 minutes inside the house after which she was exhausted
  • Now, 3 weeks later, she is walking twice a day for 5-6 minutes and she still has energy afterwards
  • We’ve taken her out twice, but the cold weather seems to make her limp more so we stopped doing it
  • I started, since last night, to apply a warm compress after I removed her brace and put her to bed, and this morning she seemed to be more flexible
  • I have to use a leash to prevent her from running up and down the stairs when I take her to do her business
  • She is getting a lot of bed rest, along with a warm compress, small walks, and supplements
  • She has been trying to play with her Nylabone, but I had to stop her for she throws it in the air and runs after it

update2Alex is doing better, but Cynthia and I know that she has a long road to recovery, and we’ll do our best to help her get back to her old hyper self.  Have a great week and enjoy your canine companions.
